Paessler Announces MIB Importer for Simplifying Network Administration

Freeware converts proprietary device MIB-SNMP files to enable management by Paessler’s Network Monitoring Applications

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 24.05.2007

PORTLAND, Ore. and FUERTH, Germany – May 24, 2007 – Paessler, the network monitoring company, today announced MIB Importer, a free software tool for existing Paessler customers that seamlessly converts proprietary network device Management Information Base (MIB) data into a format that is compatible with Paessler’s PRTG Traffic Grapher and IPCheck Server Monitor applications. This enables administrators to quickly and easily configure SNMP sensors for gathering critical network diagnostic information. By providing a hassle-free solution to monitoring, Paessler allows network administrators more time to focus on strategic initiatives.

“The MIB Importer aims to solve MIB-SNMP incompatibility issues that are common in today’s heterogeneous infrastructure,” said Dirk Paessler, founder and CEO. “We hope we can ease this administrative headache and let our customers focus on what’s important: improving network performance, finding and solving network problems, and planning for network growth.”

Many network devices and servers come with proprietary MIB files that describe the parameters and readings which are available for monitoring via SNMP. Each vendor implements device OIDs/MIBs differently, resulting in a complex set of disparate protocols that are incompatible. The new MIB Importer automatically converts SNMPv1, SNMP v2, and SNMP v3 MIB files into Paessler’s XML-based OID Library format, enabling information to be fed into PRTG Traffic Grapher and IPCheck Server Monitor, Paessler’s bandwidth monitoring and availability monitoring solution, respectively. Administrators can then designate sensors with only a mouse click from the created OID Libraries.

The MIB Importer can be downloaded free of charge to existing Paessler customers. PRTG Traffic Grapher can be purchased through the Paessler online store at http://www.paessler.com/order/prtg starting at $99.95 for the professional edition with a 25-sensor license. A freeware edition with three sensors, suitable for SOHOs and private use, is also available.

IPCheck Server Monitor software is available for download at www.paessler.com/ipcheck in a freeware version that may be used for free for personal and commercial use. Free trial license keys to evaluate the complete functionality for 30 days are available from the Paessler Website. Full licenses start at USD$149.95.
