We want to monitor the HDD-usage of several client computers - that's no problem. is it possible that if the machine is switched off there is no alarm (the client machine is not displayed in the alarm count nor set to "red state"?

This is possible but requires "some" advanced configuration work..
1. Download the PingWarning sensor and configure it to ping your computer.
2. Create a notification that uses the API to pause your HDD-usage sensor. (See the manual for more details.)
3. Create a notification that uses the API to resume your HDD-usage sensor.
4. Set up triggers for the PingWarning sensor to pause the HDD-usage sensor when your computer is switched off and to resume the HDD-usage sensor when the computer is switched back on.
