Packet Sniffing for Local Network Cards

This small tool shows short term statistics about the network data packets passing a local network card.

Using the Packet Sniffer of PRTG Traffic Grapher it counts the number of packets passing the network card and calculates the current bandwidth as well as the average packet size. For the last 20 minutes these stats are shown in a graph.

Instructions:

  1. Download and install PRTG Traffic Grapher Version 6 (Freeware or Commercial Edition, V6.0.5 or later) to install the Packet Sniffer libraries
  2. Download the ZIP file below and copy the snifferstat.exe file from the ZIP file to the folder of PRTG Traffic Grapher (usually "c:\program files\PRTG Traffic Grapher")
  3. Select an item from the list of available network cards
  4. Counting and graphing will start immediately
